Henderson, Nev. – City of Henderson Councilman Dan Shaw was honored with the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association’s Citizen Planner Award at the group’s state conference in Carson City.
Councilman Shaw was recognized for his life-long efforts to help improve the quality of life of Henderson residents and those in the rest of Southern Nevada through his work on the Henderson Planning Commission, the Henderson Parks and Recreation Board, the Clark County Planning Commission and Henderson City Council.
“I am honored that the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association has recognized me with its Citizen Planner Award,” Councilman Shaw said. “It has always been my goal to make our community better and to ensure that Henderson’s growth is smart growth.”
Councilman Shaw accepted his honor at the award ceremony for the 2017 DeBoer Awards for Excellence in Planning held on October 4. The Nevada Chapter’s awards are named after Saco Reink DeBoer, author of the Boulder City plan and one of the master city planners of the Twentieth Century.
“I have worked with Councilman Shaw for much of my career and have always found him receptive to the idea of smart growth for the City of Henderson and Clark County,” said Stephanie Garcia-Vause, Director of Henderson’s Community Development and Services Department. “I cannot think of a better person to be honored with this award for a lifetime of service.”
