Henderson Police Arrest Father on Open Murder Charge and Other Charges

Henderson, Nev. – Henderson Police arrested 53-year-old Wendell Melton this afternoon on a felony charge of Open Murder and various other charges.

On Nov. 2 at approximately noon, Henderson Police responded to the 900 block of Seven Hills Drive in reference to a domestic disturbance.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a domestic disturbance had taken place between Melton and his juvenile son when a firearm was discharged, striking the juvenile.

The juvenile was initially transported to St. Rose Dominican Hospital – Siena Campus in critical condition and subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

As a result of their investigation, Henderson Police detectives determined that Melton discharged a firearm that fatally struck his son. Melton was arrested at the scene on felony charges of Open Murder, Child Abuse and Prohibited Person Possessing a Firearm and booked into the Henderson Detention Center.

Melton’s booking photo is currently not available.

The name and cause of death will be released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The juvenile’s death is the eighth homicide in Henderson this year.
