Alternative Sentencing

The Henderson Alternative Sentencing Division came into existence on November 3, 2009. On July 21, 2014, the Henderson City Council approved the reorganization of the Henderson Alternative Sentencing Division and with their approval, the City Manager approved the change from a Division to the Alternative Sentencing Department.

The Department operates under the supervision of Alternative Sentencing Chief Ian Massy. Chief Massy was appointed by the Henderson City Council on August 5, 2014 after serving as the Acting Chief. The primary objective of the Department is to promote victim and public safety by holding probationers accountable while providing them with the opportunity for rehabilitation through accessible, quality, probationer–funded programs.

The Department was formed through a reorganization effort led by Mark Jacobs that included staff members from the City Attorney’s office and the Municipal Court. The Department is comprised of four separate units: the Programs Unit, Enforcement Unit, Assessment/Counseling Unit and Work Program / Community Service Unit. Each unit has different responsibilities, but work in unison to accomplish the Department's objectives.
