Professional Biography:
Stephanie Garcia-Vause was named the Director of Community Development in November 2007. Joining the city of Henderson in 1994, she served in a variety of positions within the Community Development Department.

In 2005, Stephanie was promoted to Deputy Director of Long Range Planning and Special Projects, and to Deputy Director of Community Development in 2006. Under her guidance, the Cityís Open Space and Trails Plan and Desert Edge Standards were completed. She also assisted in the planning, transition, and implementation of the Cultural Arts and Tourism Department.

Stephanie has participated in regional planning efforts in the Las Vegas Valley since 1997 when the legislature first created the Southern Nevada Strategic Planning Authority, the pre-cursor to today's Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition (SNRPC). The city of Henderson has provided staff support to the SNRPC on such notable projects as the Growth Summits (2003) and the Regional Open Space Plan (2007). She served as a Legislative Advocate representing the City during the 2001, 2003, and 2005 legislative sessions, and has assisted in the Cityís requests for Park, Trail & Natural Area funding as part of the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act (SNPLMA).

After receiving a bachelorís degree in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley, Stephanie earned her masterís degree in Public Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Before joining the city of Henderson, she served as the Director of Planning for a real estate development company from 1992 to 1994.

Stephanie is a member of the American Planning Association, having served as the Southern Section APA Director and Secretary. Since 1997, she has been a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Additionally, she serves as a board member of HopeLink and the Boys and Girls Club of Henderson.
