Diana Hampton was elected as Henderson Municipal Court Judge in the newly created Department 3 in June 2005 and re-elected in April 2011. She served as Chief Judge from January 2008 to December 2011. Her daily court calendar consists of misdemeanor criminal arraignments, trials and status checks. In addition, Judge Hampton hears traffic arraignment and trials from adults as well as juveniles.
Prior to being elected, Judge Hampton served both the private and government sectors. She served the city of Henderson as a Deputy City Attorney, prosecuting misdemeanors including DUI's and Domestic Battery's. Prior to holding that position, Judge Hampton had a private practice that concentrated on family and criminal law.
Judge Hampton earned her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology in 1997. She then earned her law degree from California Western School of Law in 1999.
During her second year as judge, Hampton in conjunction with American Traffic Academy, created the Advance Interactive Driver’s Education (AIDE) which concentrates on helping juvenile drivers become more alert, safer drivers. Hampton found the need for such a program after seeing firsthand the amount of underage catastrophes behind the wheel. This program teaches the driver that they are behind the wheel of a 5,000 pound weapon and to have respect for that weapon as well as the other drivers on the road.
In January 2010, Judge Hampton brought the “Life of Crime” program to Henderson in partnership with the city’s Police Department. This program centers around the everyday choices made by youth and includes law enforcement demonstrations as well as current inmates describing life behind bars and the consequences their choices.
Judge Hampton is currently a member of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Clark County and Nevada State Bar Associations, Nevada and American Judges Associations, and the Nevada Trial Lawyers Association. Judge Hampton is proud to be the first female elected to judge in the city of Henderson.
