Intermediate Snowshoe Hike

Join us for a fun-filled winter adventure on the Bristlecone Loop Trail at Mount Charleston. We will snowshoe 6-7 miles round-trip, depending on trail conditions. Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge

The Nature Conservancy describes the 24,000 acres at Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge as “one of the most important natural areas on the North American continent,” and it’s just around the corner. Spend the day at this birder’s and photographer’s paradise, with natural Caribbean blue spring pools, spring-fed wetlands and alkaline desert uplands. Maybe you will get lucky and view one of the nearly 30 species of plants and animals that don’t exist any place else on earth. Enjoy an easy guided hike and time for exploring, followed by a short volunteer project and time at the visitor’s center. Bring a sack lunch. Depart 7:00 a.m. from DRC. Ronald Reagan Presidential Library & Museum

Perched on a mountaintop with sweeping views of the surrounding mountains, valley and the Pacific Ocean, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is one of California’s most beautiful and unique destinations. The 300-acre site, just 45 minutes from downtown Los Angeles, represents the “shining city on a hill.” The holdings include over 60 million pages of documents, more than 1.6 million photographs, a half million feet of motion picture film and tens of thousands of audio and video tapes. The self-tour includes the Oval Office, Reagan’s Achievements as Governor of California, the First Lady exhibit, and the Berlin Wall exhibit. A bonus is a walk-through on Air Force One and exhibits of Reagan’s Hollywood experiences. Depart at 3:00 a.m. from HPSF, 3:30 a.m. from HMGC. There will be stops in Barstow for brunch on your own and dinner on the way back to Henderson. Depart the Library for Henderson at 4:00 p.m. Register by Feb. 17. Ages 3+

Dana Point Festival of Whales

Explore the realm of the California gray whale and see dolphins, sea birds and other marine wildlife. Take a 2-hour tour with naturalists with years of local whale-watching experience who will provide an informative tour. There’s also time to explore seaside shops and restaurants. Carp Rodeo

Join the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for a special day of fishing competition and fun at Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge. The Carp Rodeo runs from 9:00 a.m-noon. Nevada Department of Wildlife will provide 100 loaner fishing rods and bait; feel free to bring your own. Bring a sack lunch. Universal Studios

Campout at Mount Charleston

Learn how to set up a tent, start a fire and cook a meal outdoors. Hiking and camp games will be led by staff. Cost is per person and includes roundtrip transportation to Mount Charleston, all equipment, lunch, dinner, s’mores, and breakfast. Depart DRC at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday and return at noon on Sunday. La Jolla Beach Day

Moapa Valley National Wildlife Refuge

Pahranagat National Wildlife Refuge

  • Registration is open and ongoing for all excursions. Reserve your spot today! Register in person at any recreation center, senior center or indoor pool, or online using the activity codes listed.
  • If you need wheelchair accessible transportation, call us at least two weeks prior to the excursion at 702-267-5707.
  • Children MUST be accompanied by a registered parent/guardian in order to participate. See each excursion description for details.
  • Excursions may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met by the registration deadlines listed.
