Common Questions

If you are looking for a great job with excellent growth and promotional opportunities, plus an exceptional benefits package, you will enjoy working at the City of Henderson.  Applicants ask many of the same questions about the employment process.  Here are a few common questions.  If your specific question is not answered here, or if we may be of assistance, please contact us at (702) 267-1900.

  • Where can I get an employment application?
You can get an Employment application by downloading one from the job announcement or an application may be obtained in person at City Hall, 240 Water Street, 2nd Floor, Henderson, NV 89015.

  • How do I submit an employment application?
You may submit an Employment Application via U.S. mail or hand delivery to: City of Henderson, Human Resources Department, 240 Water Street, 2nd Floor, Henderson, NV 89015, or via fax to (702) 267-1901.

  • If you already have my application on file, why do I need to submit another application?
You must submit another application when you already have one on file because our online employment application process is unavailable, making it necessary to submit a paper application for each position that you would like to be considered for.

  • Can I submit an application for a position that is not currently open?
Unfortunately, we only accept applications for open positions. Please check the web site or the job hotline periodically to see what positions have open recruitments.

  • Where can I get a typing certificate?
You can get a typing certificate at many employment agencies.  Please contact the agency of your choice directly to see what, if any, fees are charged. Please refer to our Typing Certificate Policy for more details.

  • Do I need to submit original certifications or documentation with my application?
When you submit your employment application in person, you must bring your original certifications and documentation (for verification only) with you. Please provide copies of the originals to attach to your employment application. Applications submitted via mail or fax should have copies of certifications and documentation attached. If you are selected to move forward in the recruitment process, an HR representative will advise you when the originals need to be provided.

  • How will I be notified of the status of my application?
You will be notified of the status of your application via email, our primary method of contact for providing employment application status. If an email address is not provided, we will attempt to make the notification via a written letter or phone call. Emails are not sent out until after the closing date of the recruitment and after all applications have been reviewed for minimum qualifications. If you have not received notification of your employment application status two to three days prior to the date of the written examination, oral review board, or selection interview (as indicated in the job announcement), please contact us at (702) 267-1900.   For part-time continuous recruitments (i.e., School Crossing Guard, Operations Attendant, and Parks and Recreation positions), applicants will only be contacted regarding their employment application if they are selected to interview for a position.

  • How will I be notified of the testing dates?
Testing dates for written examinations, oral review boards, and selection interviews are shown on the job announcement. We suggest that you print out a copy of the job announcement each time you apply for a position so important information that you need to refer back to is readily available. Testing information for closed recruitments are posted on our web site.

  • Where can I obtain study materials for City tests?
The City does not provide study materials for preparation of written examinations for our positions. However, reference materials for various civil service examinations may be found at most public libraries and may be a good resource to prepare for City of Henderson written examinations.
