Soldier honoring veteransHonoring Those Who Serve
The Henderson Veterans Memorial Wall, dedicated in November 1994, was constructed as a tribute to local war veterans. Honored annually at Henderson’s Veterans Day Ceremony, names are added each year to the panel of the wall honoring several hundred Vietnam veterans, both living and deceased, as well as the panel reserved for all deceased war veterans who resided in Henderson prior to 1980. In 2006 a section of the wall was added to recognize Henderson residents who are “Killed in Action” or die from enemy action including terrorism and receive a Purple Heart. Join us this year on November 2 as we celebrate the lives and actions of our military personnel in protecting this great nation.

The City of Henderson also proudly honors the brave men and women currently serving in the United States Armed Forces through its Military Recognition Banner Program. Street banners bearing the name, rank and image of an active military serviceperson are displayed along portions of Green Valley Parkway and in the Water Street District for approximately six months.

Carson City CapitolFinancial Assistance Available to Help Henderson Residents with Landscape Improvements
The City of Henderson is accepting applications for two loan programs that assist residents with landscape improvements and help replace their water-thirsty grass with water-efficient landscaping.

The Homeownership Enrichment Landscape Program is designed to help residents remove turf, install drought-tolerant landscape or enhance a yard that needs some landscape attention due to blighted conditions. This is a deferred loan program for a maximum of $5,000. Residents do not need to pay back the loan until they sell their home or there is a change in ownership.

The Turf Removal Program offers a loan up to $5,000 at 3% interest, amortized over a seven year period, for residents to replace their water-thirsty grass with desert landscape. For additional assistance, residents can sign up for a rebate through the Southern Nevada Water District landscape program. The rebate will in turn help pay down the loan.

Eligible applicants must meet minimum requirements. Additional information is available at cityofhenderson.com or by calling (702) 267-2000.

Carson City CapitolHenderson Coordinated Community Response Assists Victims of Domestic Violence
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, a time for the community to come together and build awareness and a movement towards safe and healthy relationships for all individuals and families.

Henderson Coordinated Community Response (HCCR) is a network of community partners working together toward the prevention and protection of victims of violence and domestic abuse.

In 2012, the Henderson Police Department responded to over 6,000 family disturbances. Through the support of HCCR, many of these victims received financial assistance for rent and utility payments. HCCR also provides referrals for temporary housing as well as counseling and legal services.

The services provided through HCCR are supported by donations made to the program. For more information on HCCR or to make a tax-deductible donation, visit cityofhenderson.com
