Neighborhood Services

2012 Neighborhood Leadership Recognition and Awards Breakfast

The following neighborhood groups were recognized with a Premier Community Award for going above and beyond in their efforts to improve their neighborhoods:

Green Valley Ranch Community Association

Green Valley Ranch partnered with the City of Henderson for their semi-annual garage sale. City workers assisted with trash disposal and provided restroom facilities. Goodwill was also on hand to accept donations of items that didn’t sell. Held at the Henderson Pavilion, a centralized location, approximately 500 people participated as either buyers or sellers. As always, this was a fun and productive event for all in attendance.

Montelago Village Association

Partnering with the City, Montelago Village at Lake Las Vegas coordinates and pays for entertainment, such as Shakespeare in the Park, which is free to residents and the general public. They also hold a variety of holiday celebrations, including Easter egg hunts, Christmas carolers, trick or treat candy and New Year’s Eve fireworks. These events bring individuals and families to Henderson that otherwise may not visit.

Mountainside Homeowners’ Association

Mountainside keeps the 417 homes in their HOA connected with a state-of-the-art website and newsletters that provide information on crime, recycling and community updates. They have invited City staff to HOA meetings, which resulted in increased attendance and community-wide interest in establishing a Neighborhood Watch. The board and residents are dedicated to maintaining an attractive, clean and safe community they are proud to call home.

Newport Cove Condominium Unit Owners’ Association

Newport Cove was in need of landscaping assistance, with several large, dead cottonwood and pine trees in their community.  The board worked with the City to obtain an Enhancement Grant in the amount of $2,000 to remove the trees. They also collaborated with Public Works, Parks and several tree removal companies. In addition to improving the current look of Newport Cove, the project prevented future damage to underground plumbing and sidewalks from the growing tree roots.

Peppertree Homeowners’ Association

On September 22, the Peppertree community hosted the “Peppertree Night Out” that was attended by over 150 residents. Modeled after National Night Out, Henderson Police and Fire were there, along with voter registration, the library district, NSPCA, Rape Crisis Center, Salvation Army and many more. There were also numerous vendors that donated items or services to raffle off for the event. The Night Out helped build relationships not only between neighbors, but also with local businesses and community organizations.

The Village Green Homeowners’ Association

Every week residents from the Village Green visit the Veterans’ Home and Veterans’ Hospital. First mentioned at the March 2012 annual HOA meeting, homeowners were excited to include it with the other charitable projects they participate in. Of the 99 homes in the community, 46 are participating! The veterans look forward to the weekly visits and some event spent thanksgiving with their adopted families.
