The city of Henderson plunges into the holiday season, hosting its annual WinterFest celebration, Thursday, December 12-Saturday, December 14 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 Water St., in the Water Street District. The event, which transforms the city’s historic district into an old-fashioned Christmas celebration, makes a splash this year with a larger-than-life, one-of-a-kind holiday fish tank built by Wayde King and Brett Raymer of Animal Planet’s hit show, Tanked.
“We wanted to do something special to close our yearlong 60th anniversary celebration,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “Since WinterFest ushers in the holiday season in Henderson, and really is the finale of our 60th anniversary festivities, we thought a holiday aquarium would be perfect.”
The customized fish tank will be on public display inside the Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water St., during WinterFest. Residents and Tanked fans may also watch the all-new holiday episode at 10 p.m. Thursday, December 12 on Discovery and 9 p.m. on Friday, December 20 on Animal Planet.
In addition to the Tanked aquarium, WinterFest features holiday festivities for the entire family, including a performance by the Henderson Symphony Orchestra, official Christmas tree lighting with the mayor, horse-drawn carriage rides, gingerbread house displays and children’s activities. An evening light parade brightens the holidays at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, and features dozens of entries decked out in lights. Admission to WinterFest is complimentary.
