Henderson, Nev. – The city of Henderson hosts the 47th annual Southern Nevada Sons of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival, March 14-17 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street, in the Water Street District. Recognized as one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the nation, the event features a parade, carnival, car show and authentic Irish entertainment. Admission is complimentary (*Some activities may require paid admission).

Currently, the Southern Nevada Sons of Erin are seeking entries for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade, scheduled for March 16. Known as one of the biggest parades in the state of Nevada, the procession pays tribute the Emerald Isle, featuring colorful entries, from festive floats to bagpipers and Celtic dancers. Organizers chose the theme, “The Harp & the Shamrock,” for this year’s parade. The cost to enter is just $50 and limited to the first 100 entries. Parade applications with payment are due February 12.

The fair also includes a carnival, complete with games and rides for all ages, a classic car show and festival. The Irish and Irish-at-heart have the opportunity to taste the culture, feasting on a variety of traditional cuisine and drink. In addition, the four-day celebration features a number of performances by popular Irish bands and Celtic dance troupes.

“Since moving to Henderson in 2005, the St. Patrick’s Day celebration has been welcomed with an overwhelming positive response,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “The Southern Nevada Sons of Erin organization does such a remarkable job sharing the Irish heritage and culture, and at the same time, helping the less fortunate through their charitable work.”

Once again, the Southern Nevada Sons of Erin teams up with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, hosting the 3rd annual head shaving fundraiser, March 16. In 2012, the club raised over $15,000 for the local chapter, a $10,000 increase from the previous year. They are looking for men, women and kids to participate in this charity event for childhood cancer research. Join the Southern Nevada Sons of Erin team today or create your own.

Proceeds from the 2013 Southern Nevada Sons of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival, along with monies raised at the head shaving event, benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.
