Henderson, Nev.Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen and Councilman John Marz are participating in the Meals On Wheels Association of America’s (MOWAA) Mayors For Meals Day on March 20. They will ride along with the city’s Meals On Wheels drivers to deliver meals to homebound Henderson seniors.

The annual Mayors For Meals event is part of MOWAA’s March For Meals, which engages mayors and other elected officials to take an active role in bringing awareness to the issue of senior hunger. On a designated date in March each year, hundreds of elected officials across the country deliver meals to demonstrate support for their local senior nutrition program. MOWAA’s goal is to end senior hunger by 2020.

“We have hundreds of homebound seniors here in our community who rely on this important program,” said Mayor Andy Hafen. “Some of them simply do not have access to reliable transportation, while others may have health issues or injuries that prevent them from being able to shop for or prepare nutritious meals on their own. For them, Meals On Wheels is truly a life saver.”

Mayor Hafen and Councilman Marz are delivering meals in support of the city’s Black Mountain Senior Nutrition program, which operates out of Heritage Park Senior Facility and is administered by the city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department. More than 350 meals are delivered to homebound Henderson seniors each weekday.
