Henderson, Nev. – A 70-year-old woman was struck and killed by a truck Monday evening while she was attempting to cross a street in a gated community.
The woman was struck about 5:30 p.m. Monday by a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Alejandro Gutierrez, 34, as she was attempting to cross Via Sarafina Drive at Palatine Terrace Avenue, near Seven Hills Drive. The woman was crossing at an intersection that had no crosswalk markings.
The woman was taken to St. Rose Dominican Hospitals – Siena Campus where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Gutierrez voluntarily submitted to blood testing but he did not appear to be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol. A preliminary investigation also indicates that speed does not appear to be a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
