Henderson, Nev. – The Henderson Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of nine recruit police officers and one recruit corrections officer from the Southern Desert Regional Police Academy on Thursday, September 19, at 9 a.m. in the Horn Theater on the Cheyenne Campus of the College of Southern Nevada.
On Thursday, the Southern Desert Regional Police Academy will graduate a total of 34 recruit police officers and recruit corrections officers from three jurisdictions: Henderson Police, city of Las Vegas Detention and Enforcement and city of Las Vegas Fire Department.
“We should be proud of all these men and women who have decided to make a difference in their communities by serving as law enforcement officers,” Henderson Police Chief Patrick Moers said.
The Southern Desert Regional Police Academy is a partnership between the Henderson Police Department, the North Las Vegas Police Department, and the College of Southern Nevada.
The recruit police officers received more than 720 hours of academic and practical training on various topics including police ethics, criminal law, defensive tactics, firearms, principles of investigation, community policing, and emergency vehicle operations during the 21-week academy. The recruit corrections officers received more than 480 hours of similar training in a 12-week academy.
The Henderson Police recruit police officers will attend a five-week advanced academy following graduation and then complete a 17-week field training program. The Henderson Police recruit corrections officer will complete a 14-week field training program following graduation.
