Winners of "If I Were Mayor of Henderson ..." Essay Contest Announced

Henderson, Nev. – Over 600 entries were received in this year’s “If I Were Mayor of Henderson …” essay contest – the most ever since the program’s inception. Fifth grade students submitted a 100-word essay describing what they would do if they were the mayor of Henderson. Essays were selected based on spelling, grammar, originality and understanding of local government
This is the seventh year Henderson hosted the contest and all participants will receive a certificate of recognition from the Mayor. Students with the top five essays will also receive a gift card to Galleria at Sunset and be invited to join Mayor Hafen for lunch. In addition, the winners will read their essays beginning at 3 p.m. at the November 16 “City Hall at the Mall” event at the Galleria at Sunset and will be recognized at the December 3 Henderson City Council meeting.

Michael Jacobus – Estes McDoniel Elementary
Alex Langen – Estes McDoniel Elementary
Julie Watts – Green Valley Christian School
