Henderson Police

Citizens Academy

Applications are not currently being accepted for the Citizens Academy

Enrollment for the current session of the Henderson Police Department's Citizens Academy has ended. The next class will start in January 2015. The 13-week Citizens Academy gives residents a unique insight into the life and training of a Henderson Police officer.

How To Apply

Applications can be picked up at the Main Police Station at 223 Lead St. or downloaded. For more information regarding the next class please call (702) 267-4850.

The goal of the Citizens Academy is to build a bridge between the citizens and the police department that serves them. During the 13-week program, citizens experience a condensed version of the actual police academy.  The Citizens Academy meets one night a week for 3 hours. The participants are given a dress code and a strict attendance requirement; no one is permitted to miss more than two classes. Graduates of this program gain a unique insight into the life and training of a law enforcement officer. Some topics are as follows:

  • Radio and Communication Training
  • Community Policing
  • Use of Force
  • Firearms Familiarization
  • Gang Enforcement
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Taser and Demonstration
  • Jail Intake Procedures
  • Criminal Justice Overview
  • Street Weapons
  • Police K-9 demonstration
  • Domestic Violence
  • Motorcycle Traffic Unit Radar Training
  • Criminalistics

The project has been very successful and we anticipate the class filling up fast. There are three Citizens Academy programs annually.

All applicants must live or work in the city of Henderson, be at least 18 years of age, and have no felony, gross misdemeanor, or misdemeanor convictions.
