The City of Henderson permits residents to have 3 dogs and/or 3 cats per household. All pets over the age of 3 months must be licensed. Licenses may be purchased at the Henderson Animal Shelter, 300 E. Galleria, 267-4970; or at Henderson City Hall, 240 Water Street, 267-1700. This license is required in addition to the rabies certificate your veterinarian issued to you at the time of rabies vaccination. You will need to take your rabies certificate with you in order to obtain your license.
Henderson's leash law states that permitting animals to run at large is unlawful. Animals must be kept under restraint by leash, confined to premises, or under the effective control of the owner; and you must clean up after your pet. Failure to remove solid waster deposited by your animal on a public street, roadway, park, or on the private property of another is unlawful. It is also unlawful to harbor any animal, which by its constant barking, braying or yelping, becomes an annoyance to anyone in the vicinity.
The City of Henderson Animal Shelter also provides adoption services. It is open Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. (for adoptions) and 4:00 p.m. (for owner reclaim). Wednesday and Thursday it is open from 9:00 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. (for adoptions) and 6:00 p.m. (for owner reclaim). To report a lost pet, a violation of the above, or for more information, please call (702) 267-4970.
