Gerri Schroder was elected at large to the Henderson City Council in April 2007 and re-elected 2011 and 2015, representing Ward I. Councilwoman Schroder serves with the Mayor and fellow council members as the legislative branch of the Henderson community, responsible for setting policies and making decisions concerning many different aspects of local government. The City Council also approves the city’s budget.
As Councilwoman, Schroder represents the city on the Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition, Workforce Connections Local Elected Officials Consortium and the Clark County School District Oversight Committee on School Facilities. She serves as the council representative on the City of Henderson Cultural Arts and Tourism Commission and is a member of the Henderson Development Association and the Henderson Redevelopment Agency. She also serves on the Henderson Community Foundation Chairman's Council. Councilwoman Schroder previously served on the Governor's Workforce Investment Board Manufacturing Sector Council and the Mining and Materials Sector Council.
Councilwoman Schroder was elected to the National League of Cities (NLC) Board of
Directors in November 2016 and will serve on the Board Legislative Action Committee. She also serves as Chair of the NLC's Community & Economic Development Committee, First-Tier Suburbs Council and as Vice-Chair of the Western Municipal Association.
Additionally, Councilwoman Schroder serves on the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities Board of Directors.
Councilwoman Schroder received the 2016 OCA Las Vegas Community ICON award, the 2014 Distinguished Endeavor Award for Government from Distinguished Women in Nevada, the 2013 Urban Chamber of Commerce Women in Business and Politics award, the 2011 Public Official of the Year award from the Japan America Society of Nevada and was named Elected Official of the Year in 2008 by the Asian Chamber of Commerce.
Active in civic affairs, Councilwoman Schroder currently serves on the board of directors of the Foundation for Positively Kids, Japan America Society of Nevada, McCaw School of Mines, OCA Las Vegas Chapter Advisory Board, S.A.F.E. House, Inc. and Southern Nevada Child Drowning Prevention Coalition. She is also a member of the Henderson and Las Vegas Metro Chambers of Commerce and a former member of the Asian, Latin and Urban Chambers of Commerce. She previously served on the board of directors for JYD Project, Las Vegas Urban League, Metro Arts Council and Nevada State College Diversity Council, and voluntarily served on the City of Henderson Planning and Commemorative Beautification Commissions between 1994 and 2007.
