Josh Reid was appointed as Henderson’s City Attorney in December 2011. As City Attorney, Reid serves as the city’s chief legal advisor to the Mayor and City Council, City Manager and all city departments. The City Attorney’s Office consists of 20 attorneys in the Civil and Criminal Divisions as well as a dedicated staff of legal professionals, Investigators, Victim Advocates and City Marshals.
Before coming to the city of Henderson, Reid was a shareholder at the law firms of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck in Las Vegas and Parsons Behle & Latimer in Salt Lake City. His private law practice focused on environmental, energy, land-use, and regulatory matters. His legal representation included the sale or lease of significant wind and solar project assets, advising clients on federal and state renewable energy policy, power purchase agreements, and project development strategies for clients that included large public utilities, international energy companies, government agencies, private developers and Native American tribes.
After receiving a bachelor’s degree in Conservation Biology from Brigham Young University, Reid earned a Master of Environmental Science degree from Yale University in 1997. He received his juris doctorate in 2000 from the University of Arizona School of Law, where he served as a member of the Admissions Committee. After law school, Reid was a law clerk for U.S. District Judge David W. Hagen of the District of Nevada.
Reid is also active in community affairs. In 2009, President Barack Obama appointed him to the Governing Board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, which oversees development and environmental policy in the Lake Tahoe Basin. Josh also serves on the Board of Governors for the Utah Shakespearean Festival and as the Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Public Lands Committee. He previously served on the Utah State Board of Regents, the Utah State Board of Education, and the Utah Appellate Court Nominating Commission.
In 2010, Reid was named one of the “Top 40 Under 40” professionals by In Business Las Vegas. He was also recognized by the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada in 2009, 2010, and 2011 for donating a significant number of pro bono legal service hours to individuals who cannot afford an attorney.
