Richard Derrick was named Finance Director for the city of Henderson in October 2010. Since joining the city in 1999, Richard has served as Manager of Budget and Strategic Management, Assistant to the City Manager, Assistant Finance Director, and Acting Finance Director. He is responsible for overseeing the operational, analytical and professional work on financial issues and services affecting the city.
Richard has more than 22 years of experience in budget and financial management. Prior to joining the city, he was the Budget Director for the Clark County School District where he was responsible for the development and management of the District’s $2 billion budget. His experience extends to the private sector serving as Manager of Financial Planning at Caesars Palace and as a Staff Accountant for Deloitte, Haskins and Sells public accounting firm.
A Henderson native, Richard holds a Master of Public Administration degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, both received from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
Currently Richard is an active member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), Nevada Government Finance Officers Association (NGFOA), Local Government Managers Association of Nevada, International City/County Management Association, and American Society of Public Administrators.
Richard is a graduate of the 2000 Clark County Leadership Forum. He was a two-term Treasurer for the NGFOA and also served ten years as a Budget Document Reviewer for GFOA’s "Distinguished Budget Presentation Award" program. He held a six year appointment to the GFOA’s Committee on Governmental Budgeting and Fiscal Policy, served as an Audit Committee member for the Clark County Credit Union for five years, and was a Board Trustee for the Henderson District Public Libraries for five years.
