Why should I remove lead-based paint from my home?

Lead is a naturally occurring heavy metal that historically was added to gasoline and residential paint. Homes build before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, which becomes a health hazard as the paint ages, cracks and peels. Even the smallest amount of deterioration of lead-based paint can harm children and cause irreversible health effects. The only way to know if your home has lead-based paint is to have a lead-based paint inspection and risk assessment.

Lead Safe Registry

Our hope is for Henderson families with young children to find affordable “lead-safe” housing that will allow children to grow-up in a home that is free of lead-based paint hazards. We have created this registry to assist families in finding these homes that have been recently completed by the Henderson Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes Program and are available to rent.
