We offer several programs to choose from that range from community cleanup and park/trail adoption to taking care of children and assisting seniors. If you are interested in participating as a volunteer in a Parks and Recreation event or program, please complete the volunteer application and background authorization (mandatory for volunteers ages 18+) below.

Ongoing Volunteer Opportunities
Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve
Do you enjoy seeing birds and other wildlife in their natural habitat? Do you want to be part of a rewarding program that promotes conservation? Are you able to donate a few hours each week or each month to a worthwhile cause? If you answered yes to one or more of these questions, then the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve Volunteers program is for you.

Henderson Trail Watch
Volunteers provide a positive presence, assist trail users, and observe issues and activities on Henderson trails at the volunteer’s convenience while using the trail. A minimum time commitment of one week is required to be a part of the Trail Watch program. Training will be provided. Must be 18 years or older.

Dining Room Volunteers
Heritage Park Senior Facility
Volunteers serve trays to senior diners and clear trays during meal time. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age with a valid volunteer services application on file and should be able to walk while carrying a tray to and from dining tables.
Downtown Senior Center
Volunteers serve trays to senior diners and clear trays for seniors who are unable to stand in line and serve themselves. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age with a valid volunteer services application on file and should be able to walk while carrying a tray to and from dining tables.

Occasionally service projects are available at our recreation centers and park areas. Please contact the City's Volunteer Connection Program at (702) 267-4140, or email COHParksRecVolunteers@cityofhenderson.com for project availability.
Youth Sports Coach
Coaches are always needed for soccer and basketball. Prospective coaches must be 18 years or older. We are looking for volunteer coaches to teach youth sports skills for approximately 5-10 hours per week. Games are held on Saturdays and practice days during the week vary. The City of Henderson Commemorative Beautification Commission and local sponsors have a 20' enclosed trailer full of tools and supplies. This furnished trailer is available at no cost to Henderson residents and businesses to use for neighborhood cleanups and community projects. Community Pride Award
The Commemorative Beautification Commission presents the Community Pride Award to recognize individuals or businesses that have improved the appearance of their neighborhood or added to the beauty or cleanliness of Henderson. Honorees receive a Community Pride Award sign, which is posted for several months in their yard or business to recognize their outstanding efforts.
Examples of previous award winners include homeowners who have cleaned up a neglected yard or common area, or have converted turf to xeriscape, thereby improving the appearance of their home or community area. Call (702) 267-4014 for more information.
