Free Gardening Workshop - Trick or Treats

Master Gardeners have a few tricks up their sleeves as they introduce kids to festive plant projects as Halloween approaches. All children (including the young at heart) can attend. Make a Difference Day

Help install trees that provide shade and beautify our city. Learn how to care for plants, trees and shrubs. Arborists and gardening enthusiasts will be on hand to help you with all your gardening and planting questions. Lunch is provided.

Munchable Monster House

Take some chocolate frosting, graham crackers and colorful candy and make a sweet (and very edible) haunted house. They’re fun to make and even more fun to eat. All supplies provided. Trunk or Treat

Henderson’s premier safe trick-or-treating event returns for an evening of festive fun. Put on your costumes and follow the trick-or-treat trail in our parking lot where we pass out treats (or tricks). Event includes a costume contest, activities and entertainment. Each paid participant receives a wristband for admission. Parents may accompany children for free. Register early for this popular and safe event. $3 per person, all ages. Zombie Run 5k and Family Fun Walk

Tots Trick or Treat Trail

Jr. Lifeguard
November 3-December 13

The Jr. Lifeguard program introduces you to lifeguarding and working in an aquatic facility. Learn hands-on lifeguarding skills as well as how to assist with swim lessons. Following the training program (held the first week), you’ll be given a schedule based on availability. Then you can assist at one of our pools, shadow lifeguards and help with swim lessons. Upon successful completion of the program, you’ll know what it takes to become a lifeguard and be prepared to participate in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course, if desired. Birding Under the Stars

Our expert birders take you on a unique tour of the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve to see birds and other wildlife at night. We’ll look for nocturnal owls, nighthawks and night herons. Please arrive 15 minutes early for check in; late arrivals will not be able to go out on their own. Ages 8+. $14. Join us for Charlie Brown’s annual Thanksgiving dinner. We recreate his pretzels, popcorn and jelly bean dinner to enjoy while watching the movie. Junior Naturalist Day

Junior naturalists go out into the field with a knowledgeable Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve staff member to collect data on weather conditions, plants, animals, and birds. The hands-on workshop focuses on outdoor exploration and investigation and encourages a respect for the natural world. Ages 6-12. Parents Night Out At The Pool

Parents, enjoy a few hours to yourself and leave the kids with us for three hours of aquatic-style fun. The event includes a dive-in movie on our big screen, interactive games and swimming activities. Pizza, refreshments and dessert are included. In order to participate, children must be able to swim at least one length of the pool comfortably. A parent/guardian must pick up their child promptly at 6:30pm as children are not allowed to leave the facility on their own and will be released only to a parent/guardian. For children not picked up on time, a late charge of $1 per minute will be assessed. Ages 8-12 $15. Register online using activity code 436630-00 or at any recreation center or indoor pool.

Candy Cane Festival

Celebrate the magic of winter with games, a bounce house, treats, letters to Santa and an underwater candy cane hunt. Children under the age of 8 must be supervised by a parent/guardian within arm’s reach at all times. The per-person cost is considered paid admission and applies to each person wishing to enter the event (participants and spectators alike). All pool rules apply. Polar Bear Plunge

The Polar Bear Plunge is back! ”Bear” the freezing weather and take a bracing plunge down the slides into the unheated activity pool. Warm up with tasty winter treats, a bounce house and hands-on activities. We’ll have prizes and goody bags for the first 100 participants. The plunge is not recommended for those with heart conditions or high blood pressure. Children under the age of 8 must be supervised by a parent/guardian within arm’s reach at all times. The per-person cost is considered paid admission and applies to each person wishing to enter the event (participants and spectators alike). All pool rules apply.
