Each year city leaders are joined by those who have served our country, those who continue the fight, and families and friends of veterans and those military members currently serving our country to celebrate the lives and actions of our military personnel in protecting this great nation.
Veterans are honored at Veterans Day ceremonies at the Henderson Veterans Memorial Wall adjacent to City Hall. The event includes a presentation of the colors by the Basic High School Marine Corps JROTC, a special musical tribute, and the traditional placement of a memorial wreath at the base of the wall by the American War Mothers, a group of mothers and wives of war veterans. In addition, one of the most moving portions of the event is the reading of the names, commemorating Henderson veterans recently deceased. The names are etched onto the black marble wall to memorialize their contributions in keeping our nation free.
Blue Star Mothers - Holiday Stockings
The City of Henderson is partnering with the Blue Star Mothers to assemble
and send holiday stockings to military members who are deployed overseas.
The Blue Star Mothers, local businesses and city employees are collecting a long list of supplies with the goal to stuff 1,000 holiday stockings with the comforts of home. Collection boxes will be placed throughout Henderson City Hall and with local businesses in the Water Street District in the fall. The public is invited to help assemble stockings at the Henderson Convention Center December 2 and 3 from 9am - 6pm.
If you know of a Henderson military member who is deployed, please complete the contact information below so they can receive their very own stocking.
