As a Nevada resident for more than 40 years, Debra March has built a career out of helping our community and our state be a better place to live. After graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, she served as a state park ranger in rural Nevada where she promoted the value of parks and open spaces for a healthy quality of life.
Debra moved to Southern Nevada as Deputy Administrator with the Nevada Real Estate Division, creating and implementing policies to make it easier for residents to become homeowners, and from 1996 to 2009, she led efforts for the development of livable communities as the Director of UNLVís Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies.
With a demonstrated passion for smart growth, citizen involvement and sustainable community planning, Debra was appointed to represent Hendersonís Ward II residents in July 2009 and was subsequently elected for a full term in April 2011. Councilwoman March serves with the mayor and fellow council members as the legislative branch of the Henderson community, responsible for setting policies that have earned the city the reputation of being one of the best places to live.
Debra represents Henderson as a vice-chair and commissioner on the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, vice-chair and commissioner of the Clark County Regional Flood Control District and serves as the council liaison to the Henderson Planning Commission. Additionally, she is the chair of the Southern Nevada Strong Consortium Committee and alternate representative on the Southern Nevada Water Authority board of directors. She is also the cityís sustainability initiative champion.
In 2014, Debra was appointed to the National League of Cities First Tier Suburbs Council and the Transportation & Infrastructure Committee.
Debra is a current board member, founding member and former vice-chair of the Urban Land Institute Nevada District Council; graduate of Leadership Las Vegas Class of 1991; a former board member of Nevada HAND; and served as President of the Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities from 2012 to 2013. She is also a member of the Boulder Highway Investment Strategy Committee; the Laughlin Enterprise Economic Development Group; and the Regional Rapid Transit Authority Advisory Committee. Additionally, she is a volunteer with the Lied Institute for Real Estate Studies and is a past national board member of the American Planning Association. She was named to the Advisory Board of the Rocky Mountain Land Use Institute, the Roseman University of Health Science MBA Advisory Board and also serves as a member of the bi-state I-11 Corridor Study.
A Henderson resident for more than 25 years, Debra has a long track record of service to the city and her community. She serves on the Henderson Community Foundation board; is a member of the Henderson Open Space and Trails Advisory and Henderson Limited Transition Area Committees; and served on the city of Henderson Planning Commission from 2004 to 2009. A member of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce, Debra was on the founding board and first year advance chair of Leadership Henderson.
In recognition of her contributions to the community, Debra was named the Public Official of the Year in 2013 by the NLC&M, NAIOP Southern Nevada Chapter Associate Member of the Year and Citizen of the Year by the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors.
