As a jurisdiction within Clark County, Nevada, the City of Henderson is required to provide election materials in English, Tagalog/Filipino, and Spanish.
Clark County, Nevada became subject to the minority language voting provisions of Section 203 of the Federal Voting Rights Act on July 26, 2002. The Director of the U.S. Census Bureau directed the Clark County Election Department to conduct all future elections in English and Spanish based upon 2000 Census data.
On October 13, 2011, the Director of the U.S. Census Bureau informed the Clark County Election Department that, based upon 2010 census data, future elections must also be conducted in Tagalog/Filipino, as well as English and Spanish.
The U.S. Department of Justice ("DOJ") enforces these minority language requirements.
The Clark County Election Department provides registration and voting materials in English, Tagalog/Filipino, and Spanish. These materials include registration notices, voting notices, forms, instructions, assistance, and other materials and information relating to the electoral process, including ballots. This is mandated by
42 U.S.C. § 1973aa-1a(c).
