Battle Born Kids and Battle Born Teens
Battle Born Kids and Battle Born Teens are recreation programs that support distance learning. The programs incorporate daily activities that may include games, crafts, sports, and movies. Participants are assigned to groups that will ensure social distancing is maintained throughout activities.
Monday-Friday ▪ 7am-6pm
Battle Born Kids – ages 5-12
Battle Born Teens – ages 10-14
Registration
$20 per child per day. No sibling discounts are available. Financial assistance is available.
All registration and participation is subject to space availability. Register online by midnight the day before you wish to attend. Day-of, in-person registration accepted pending space availability.
Winter Break held only at HMGC and WRRC. No program January 1.

Early Arrival and Extended Stay
Black Mountain Recreation Center and Henderson Multigenerational Center offer an early-start and late pick-up option. Participants must be registered on or by the Wednesday prior to the week their child will be attending.

Safety
- Intake tables will be stationed inside of recreation centers at the main entrance. All guests will be required to take a temperature reading each time they enter the building. A COVID questionnaire must be completed daily for each child and parent/guardian during drop-off.
- All guest (including parents) temperatures will be checked by designated intake staff. Children will also be temperature checked at time of pick up.
- Participants ages 5 and over are expected to always wear their face covering while in program except when they are eating, at which time they are following social distancing guidelines and are no less than 6 feet apart from another participant.
- Government-issued ID is required for drop-off and pick up.
Activities
Planned activities will include, but not limited to, games, crafts, physical fitness, music, virtual field trips, virtual special guests, movies, and sports. All activities will follow current social distancing guidelines.
Distance Learning
- The City will provide time for distance learning coordinated with your child's school schedule.
- The City will provide access to public Wi-Fi.
- The City will provide a staff member to supervise the log-in process and assist with children’s needs, however, the City is not responsible for participant’s schoolwork productivity. Parents will be notified if there are issues that prevent their children from logging in.
- Parents must provide all log in information, virtual class schedule, participant’s school I.D. number and all applicable information needed for participants to participate in distance learning classes.
- All participants must bring their own school supplies necessary to complete their assignments and crafts. Items should be labeled with the child’s name and in a backpack. Backpacks will be kept in the room designated for distance learning. Items should include:
- Laptop, headphones, or electronic device(s) with charging cords to complete virtual classes.
- Pencils, pens, crayons/color pencils, glue sticks, notebooks, scissors, and pencil box, personal hand sanitizer and tissues.
- All personal supplies must brought with the participant each day and taken home at the end of each day.
- Disinfecting equipment will be the parent’s responsibility.
- Electronic devices will only be available to the children during their group’s designated school time.
- The City is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged items.
Cleaning and Disinfection
The City will clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces hourly or as needed. Use of shared objects (e.g., gym or sports equipment, art supplies, toys, games) will be limited when possible, and will be cleaned in between use.
Routine hand washing will be required for all participants and staff will ensure cleanliness is maintained throughout the day.
Lunches
Lunch and a snack will be provided. Please provide a healthy lunch, snack and water bottle for your child every day if they decide not to eat what is provided. We do have vending machines, but it does not supply nutritional foods. Please send exact change only; recreation centers cannot make change. Children are responsible for their own money and the use of the vending machines is at their own risk. We do not have the capability to refrigerate or microwave lunches or snacks.
Refunds
Full refunds are issued for cancellations 48 hours prior to the date registered to attend.
