Prevent Ice Hazards
It is winter season! With lowering temperatures, the risk of dangerous ice formations increases, and prevention of ice hazards becomes important. Please verify that your landscape irrigation is not creating any water runoff onto a sidewalk or street. By doing so, you can help keep the sidewalks safe for emergency responders, kids walking to school, and your neighbors – while also preventing possible liability for injuries.
Henderson Municipal Code (HMC) 11.03.030 includes language about keeping sidewalks and streets free from any size of ice formations.
- Ice Removal – Responsibility falls to the person whose premise abuts to any public sidewalk in the prevention of ice formation and the removal if one occurs.
- Liability – Any person who violates this Section shall be liable for any injuries.
- Penalties – Anyone violating any provisions of HMC 11.03.030, will be guilty of a misdemeanor.
