WHAT: The City of Henderson and Purple Heart Veterans Chapter 730 are hosting a celebration to commemorate Purple Heart Day at Purple Heart Plaza in downtown Henderson on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
Mayor Michelle Romero, Henderson City Councilmembers and Purple Heart Veterans Chapter 730 representatives will join the community to honor combat war veterans and all those who have served.
The Henderson City Council will also issue a proclamation at the Aug. 6 meeting to honor Purple Heart Day.
Purple Heart Plaza, celebrating its sixth anniversary in Henderson’s Water Street District, features the nationally recognized Purple Heart Monument and a donor brick program offering the public an opportunity to purchase engraved pavers in honor of someone who has served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Created in 1782, the Purple Heart is awarded to any member of the U.S. Armed Forces who is wounded or killed in action. Henderson became Nevada's first Purple Heart City in January 2014.
Community members who want more information regarding the brick paver program can visit purpleheart730.org.
Purple Heart Plaza is open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to midnight. For additional information, visit cityofhenderson.com.
