- Congratulations to our Department of Utility Services for being awarded the National Association of Clean Water Agencies 2024 Platinum Peak Performance Award for the Kurt R. Segler Water Reclamation Facility (WRF)!This recognition marks the 20th consecutive year the facility has received a Peak Performance Award, showcasing an ongoing commitment to excellence and 100% compliance with the Clean Water Act’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permits. - In a significant achievement for our community, the City has received three awards from the American Planning Association (APA) Nevada Chapter. Councilman Jim Seebock was honored as the winner in the Elected Official category, acknowledging his exemplary contributions to local governance. The City’s Pumpkin Park project, a collaborative neighborhood revitalization initiative, was recognized as the winner of the Outstanding Individual Project category. Additionally, Richelle Liston received the President’s Award, recognizing her outstanding service and commitment to the planning profession.
The awards were presented at the APA conference on October 22, where several team members also showcased their work on key planning topics. These recognitions emphasize the City’s ongoing commitment to high-performing public service in pursuit of a healthy and thriving community. - We are excited to announce that we have received the 2024 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the highest honor for performance excellence bestowed by the President of the United States. - Our City Clerk's Office has been recognized with the National Beacon Award by the Elections Center for innovatively teaching children about the election process. During the Presidential Preference Primary in February and the Primary Election in June, local kids were invited to learn about the election process and vote for their favorite flavor of ice cream. The Henderson Fire Department has receivedaccreditation once again by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI) after receiving Legacy status last year. This marks HFD's sixth consecutive reaccreditation. HFD is one of only six organizations in the world to have received six CFAI accreditations. CFAI is dedicated to assisting the fire and emergency service agencies throughout the world in achieving excellence through self-assessment and accreditation to provide continuous quality improvement and the enhancement of service delivery to their communities. “We are proud to be a fire department that maintains premier standards and be recognized by such a prestigious organization,” said Henderson Fire Chief Shawn White. “We remain committed to keeping Henderson one of the safest cities in America.”

- The City of Henderson announced it has again received a perfect 100% score on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI) for 2023. The MEI examines how inclusive municipal laws, policies and services are for the LGBTQ+ community members who live and work within the surveyed cities.
- The City of Henderson was announced as a winner of the Digital Cities Survey Award by the Center for Digital Government (CDG). The City was awarded 5th in the 250,000 - 499,999 Population Category for using technology to strengthen cybersecurity, enhance transparency, digital privacy rights, and digital equity, and finding innovative ways to support solutions for social challenges facing cities today.
- Forbes Advisor has named the City of Henderson as the 3rd best city in the nation for renters. This latest analysis evaluated data across 23 different metrics including average rental prices, crime rate, amenities, and more.
- City of Henderson earned the gold certification from What Works Cities—a Bloomberg Philanthropies program that evaluates how well cities are managed by measuring the extent to which city leaders incorporate data and evidence in their decision-making.

- City of Henderson attorneys Bethany Sanchez, Michael Oh, and Brandon Kemble were voted by their peers as Top Rank Attorneys 2023. Top Rank Attorneys has been featured in Nevada Business Magazine since 2007. Polling for Top Rank began in mid-February of this year and several thousand nominations were submitted. Each attorney that made it on the list not only had to receive enough votes to qualify, but they also went through several levels of verification and scrutiny.

The City of Henderson Fire Department has been awarded the 2023 Silver Anniversary Cashman Good Government Award, presented annually by the Nevada Taxpayers Association (NTA). The Award was presented during the NTA's Annual Meeting and Biennial Legislative Dinner in Carson City on February 23, 2023. The Award was established in 1997 to recognize superior stewardship of taxpayer dollars by government employees and/or agencies.
- The Whitney Mesa BMX Track is number one in Nevada! this determination was based on a track points system by USA BMX. It is also in the top 30 tracks in the USA and Canada.
- Henderson City Manager and Chief Executive Officer Richard Derrick receives the prestigious Malcolm Baldridge Foundation 2023 Award for Leadership Excellence.
- 2022 Business Survey results shows Henderson Business Owners and Operators have positive perception of Henderson. 92% of respondents gave the City high ratings as a place to do business and 92% rate the City as business friendly. Henderson rated significantly higher than the southwest regional average in 15 of the 19 areas assessed in the survey and satisfaction with overall quality of City services being 13% above the southwest regional average.
2022
- The City of Henderson was the first organization in the region to receive the Pinnacle Award for Excellence from the Southwest Alliance for Excellence (SWAE) in 2022 for its proven systematic and fact-based strategic planning process, commitment to continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction with the quality of life, crime prevention and more.

- The National Endowment for the Arts recommended $150,000 to the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department to help arts and culture programs recover from the pandemic.
- 2021 Community Survey shows Henderson Residents have Positive Perception of Henderson. 97% of residents expressed satisfaction with the city as a place to live and 94% as a place to raise a family. These high satisfaction ratings are nearly identical to the 2018 survey, despite the many challenges our community faced over the last two years.

- The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) awarded the city with its highest level of recognition for performance management, a Certificate of Excellence. - The Henderson Fire Department has received Reaccreditation through the Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS)
- The Police Department has joined a select group of some 500 police agencies worldwide to achieve accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA)
- Henderson received the DeBoer Excellence in Planning Award for the Downtown Investment Strategy presented by the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association
- The American Economic Development Council (AEDC) at its Promotional Material Awards Competition presented Honorable Mention to Henderson in recognition of excellence for It’s Publication Advertising Campaign Entry

- Henderson received international recognition when selected to receive the Special Achievement in Geographical Information Systems (GIS) at the annual Environmental Systems Research Institute’s (ESRI) international user conference, being selected from over 100,000 sites worldwide
- The Parks and Recreation Department was the first agency in Nevada to obtain national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA) out of 28 agencies in the US, demonstrating 100 percent compliance in fiscal policy, human resources management, programs, services, policies and more than 153 other operational standards set forth by the commission
- The Regional Transportation Commission awarded the City the Golden Spoke Award for outstanding achievements in bicycling programs
- Public Works and the Police Substation received the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAOIP) Spotlight Award
- The City received several Water Environment Federation and Nevada Water Environment Association Awards, such as: the Nevada Water Environment Association Wastewater Operator of the Year Award for Roger Leger, Operator III, Water Reclamation Facility; the Water Environment Federation Award and the Water Environment Federation Laboratory Analyst Excellence Award for Keni Whalen, Laboratory Supervisor, Water Laboratory; the Water Environment Federation George W. Burke, Jr. Facility Safety Award for Mark Schrader; the Nevada Water Environment Association Operations Challenge Runner Up Award to the team Bad Habits; and the Nevada Water Environment Association Operations Challenge Champion Award for the year 2001 was awarded to the team Totally Chaotic
2000
- Henderson received several International Association of Business Communicators Bronze Quill Awards for outstanding recognition in the business communication field, such as Multimedia Category, Videos Produced Under $2,500, Multimedia Category, Videos Produced Over $10,000, Newsletter/Magapaper/Tabloid Category and News Release Category
- The American Economic Development Council’s “Best of Class” Award was bestowed to Economic Development in the Promotional Material Awards Competition
- The City was awarded the Nevada Water Environment Association Operations Challenge Champion Award
1999
- In December, Henderson surpassed Reno as Nevada's second largest city
- Henderson received the Gold Medal Award from the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration in partnership with the National Recreation and Park Association (population served: 100,000 to 250,000)
- Community Development was awarded the DeBoer Excellence in Planning Award for the Visual Interactive Code presented by the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association
1998
- Henderson was honored in this year’s Howland Awards publication, “Working Cities, Winning Ideas,” for the Bird Viewing Preserve and the City’s Comprehensive Plan
- The American Economic Development Council (AEDC), in its Sales Literature and Promotional Materials Awards Competition, presented Henderson with the award of Excellent for the quality of its entry “It’s Happening in Henderson”
- Henderson received the Silver Circle Award and three Savvy Awards from the National City-County Communications and Marketing Association (3CMA)
- The Water Environment Federation’s George W. Burke, Jr., Facility Safety Award was presented to Tim Smith, Wastewater Operations Supervisor, from the Utility Services Department
- The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and Award of Financial Reporting Achievement was presented to Steve Hanson, the former Director of Finance
- Former City Attorney Shauna M. Hughes was a Finalist for the Cashman Good Government Award by the Nevada Taxpayers Association
1997
- Money Magazine rated Henderson among the Top 50 Safest Cities in the United States
- Henderson was also rated among the Top 50 Kid Friendly Cities in the United States in 1997 by Zero Population Growth, a Washington-based group
- With the passage and implementation of the 1997 bond issue, Henderson will have the most extensive trail system (jogging, biking, etc.) in Nevada
- The Finance Department received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting (COA) by the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)
- The Public Works Department was bestowed the 1997 Project of the Year Award by the Nevada Chapter of the American Public Works Association
