Ward II - Councilman Dan Shaw
Dan Shaw was appointed in June 2017 to fill the open council seat representing residents in Ward II, which includes Anthem, Inspirada and West Henderson.
Councilman Shaw serves with the mayor and his fellow council members as the legislative branch for the Henderson community. His responsibilities include setting policies and making decisions concerning various aspects of local government for Nevada’s second largest city, recognized as being one of the safest cities and best places to live in the nation.
Councilman Shaw represents the City of Henderson on the boards of directors of the Southern Nevada Regional Housing Authority and Southern Nevada Regional Planning Coalition and is an alternate member of the Southern Nevada Water Authority. In addition, he serves on the City of Henderson Audit Committee and as the council representative to the Henderson Planning Commission.
In addition to his government service, Councilman Shaw currently serves on the Nevada State College Foundation board of directors, where he advocates for student achievement and promotes the growth and improvement of the institution.
Councilman Shaw is the president and CEO of Rustler Investments and ShawJones Partners LLC. Previously, he was the owner of RMI Development, RMI Investment Services and Realty Management as well as president of the Vista Group, where he was responsible for the development and construction of shopping centers, office parks, apartment projects and industrial office facilities throughout Southern Nevada.
Councilman Shaw received the Citizen Planner Award in 2017. Presented by the Nevada Chapter of the American Planning Association, the award recognized his life-long efforts to help improve the quality of life for Henderson and Southern Nevada residents. In addition, the Boy Scouts of America awarded Shaw the Silver Beaver Award, their highest award for service, and he was recognized as the Outstanding Citizen by the State of Nevada for his leadership in the parks and recreation industry.
Before his appointment, Councilman Shaw served as chair of the Clark County Planning Commission. He also served as chair of the City of Henderson Planning Commission from July 1999 to June 2010, during which time the city’s master plans were revised and the city’s Development Services section was implemented. In addition, he served as a member and chair of the city’s Parks and Recreation Board from July 1987 to June 1999, helping to pass a voter-approved, tax-neutral bond which led to the development of several parks and facilities including the Downtown Recreation Center, Henderson Multigenerational Center, Henderson Pavilion, Mission Hills Park and Russell Road Sports Complex.
Councilman Shaw also has served as chair of the Regional Boy Scouts of America, a board member of the Nevada Apartment Association and president of the Nevada State International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC).
A proud veteran, Shaw honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Army Infantry and Petroleum Supply Unit from 1969-1974, achieving the rank of SPFC 4. He also studied recreation management at Brigham Young University and later graduated from the American Banking Institute with an emphasis on secondary money markets.
Councilman Shaw is married and has six children and 13 wonderful grandchildren. A cowboy at heart, he competes as a heeler in team roping events in rodeos throughout the western United States. He also enjoys participating in various outdoor activities.
