Ward III - Councilwoman Carrie Cox
Professional Biography
Carrie Cox was elected at-large to the Henderson City Council in November 2022, representing Ward 3. Councilwoman Cox serves with the mayor and her fellow council members as the legislative branch for the Henderson community. Her responsibilities include setting policies and making decisions concerning various aspects of local government for Nevada's second-largest city, recognized as being one of the best places to live in the nation.
Prior to her elected service, Councilwoman Cox was an educator for 32 years, she was a kindergarten teacher, and most recently, a reading interventionist at Pinecrest Academy Sloan Canyon. Cox is also a small business owner and has worked as a family law paralegal, advocating for children and families.
Before taking office, Councilwoman Cox was appointed to the Henderson Blue Ribbon Commission on Educational Excellence and Youth Opportunity and the Clark County Community Development Advisory Committee, where she served for four years. Cox has held several leadership roles in the community, including service as President and Director of the Board of Directors for the Community of Emerald Valley. She also held positions as President and Secretary of the Lorna J. Kesterson Elementary School Parent-Teacher Association Board and served as a community and family engagement advocate. She is also active in her church, serving in many organizations.
Cox has lived in Southern Nevada for 33 years and the City of Henderson has been her “Place to Call Home” for 26 years. Married to Matthew Cox, an Air Force veteran, they have seven children and 11 grandchildren. Cox is also the proud daughter of a Navy veteran.
