With the school year in full swing, Henderson is thinking about your safety, especially in the schools. Fortunately, there are steps all members of our community can take to try to keep you and your fellow students protected.

Students, parents and faculty throughout Nevada now have access to SafeVoice, an anonymous reporting system used to report threats to the safety or well-being of students. SafeVoice was established by the Nevada Department of Education under SB 212 in 2017 to protect student wellness, prevent violence and save lives.

Every public school in Nevada is interconnected to the SafeVoice Communications Center. SafeVoice is a confidential method for students to report concerns such as cyber bullying, violence or weapons, at-risk behavior, drugs, and sexual harassment. You can use the SafeVoice tool to report concerns about your friends or by visiting safevoicenv.org, calling 833-218-SAFE or downloading the SafeVoice app.

Once a tip is received, it is determined if involvement by law enforcement is necessary. The tip is then passed along to a school team comprised of a school administrator, counselor and/or social worker, which makes a decision on how best to respond.

You won’t have to use your name to make your community safer, just your voice.

The City of Henderson will continue to work with the community to find new ways to make our city one of the very safest places in the nation to live, work and raise a family.
